Welcome to Grand Traverse County
Grand Traverse County is located in northwestern Michigan's Lower Peninsula.
In the 1830's French explorers names the county who perceived the trek across the Old Mission Peninsula as La Grande Traverse, which meant a long distance.
The area is primarily known for tourism, cherry production, plastics manufacturing, food processing, and medical technology, among other ventures.
Grand Traverse County includes the communities of Traverse City, Acme, Williamsburg, Kingsley and Fife Lake.

Traverse City - Traverse City is the county seat of Grand Traverse County. It was first settled in the 1850's, during the regions lumbering boom and its accessibility to Lake Michigan via the Grand Traverse Bay.
Today, it is a great place for vacationing due to its central location to so many of the activities and attractions in northwest lower Michigan.
Recent rapid growth has resulted from being a popular place for retirement, a great place to raise a family and its diverse economy for locating a business.
Acme - Acme is located north of Traverse City on the East Bay. The village is home of the Grand Traverse Resort which includes golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus.
Williamsburg - Williamsburg is host to the Turtle Creek Casino and The Sands Lake Quiet Area.
Kingsley - Kingsley was first settled in 1874 when the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad ran a line to Kingsley for harvesting lumber. Kingsley is a nearby community to the growing Traverse City area, but retains it's small-town atmosphere.
Fife Lake - Was incorporated in 1889 is located on an inland lake of the same name. Like other small villages and towns near the city of Traverse City, Fife Lake is experiencing expanded residential and commercial growth. |
